-

Police are investigating the death of a man as a homicide after his body was found in Regina’s Eastview neighbourhood Wednesday morning. It is Regina’s eighth homicide of 2017.

Police responded to the 1000 block of Atkinson Street at 8:06 a.m. for a report of a man who was lying outside a residence and did not appear to be breathing. Police and EMS attended, and the man was confirmed to be deceased.

The man, who is in his mid20s, has been identified but as of Wednesday evening police had not yet notified next of kin.

Officers secured the immediate area and requested assistance from the major crimes and forensic identification units, as well as the Office of the Chief Coroner.

By Wednesday afternoon, there was still significant police presence in the area, as well as a several members of Regina Fire and Protective Services who appeared to be hosing down an area behind a house on the 1000 block of Atkinson Street. Meanwhile, police had roped off a second house nearby on the 900 block of Atkinson Street.

Several area residents who were home on the otherwise quiet street said they hadn’t seen or heard anything and were surprised to see the police presence outside in the morning.

Residents all described the area as generally quiet, consisting mainly of seniors and families with young kids.

One woman, who lives near the house on the 900 block, said she doesn’t know the people who live there, but believes it’s a family with younger children.
