Search continues for man accused of firing at officer

-

Police have released a composite sketch of the man they are searching for after at least one gunshot was fired at an RCMP officer who stopped to investigate a vehicle pulled over on the side of the highway near Osler.

Around 4 a.m. on Friday, a Rosthern RCMP officer noticed a black Cadillac CTS parked on the shoulder of Highway 11 near Osler. The vehicle’s lights were off and it had no licence plate, RCMP said in a news release.

After the officer pulled over and activated the cruiser’s emergency equipment, a man got out of the Cadillac “and then the RCMP member was shot at,” RCMP said. “The individual got back inside and the vehicle fled toward Saskatoon.”

At some point, the officer returned fire. A short pursuit followed and Saskatoon police were notified, but the vehicle and its occupant or occupants have yet to be located.

The RCMP officer was not injured in the encounter.

The suspect wanted in connection with the shooting is described as a six-foot-tall black man with a slim build and high cheekbones, RCMP said Monday.

RCMP said the person or persons inside the Cadillac should not be approached and are considered armed and dangerous.

The RCMP major crimes unit is involved in the investigation and attempting to locate any one who has travelling on Highway 11 between Rosthern and Saskatoon on Friday between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m.
