Architects unveil tiny but multifunctional apartment

-

An Italian architecture company is tapping into how to create a living space without using a whole lot of physical room.

The firm, Planair, has come up with what’s known as the Taac micro apartment — a 317-square-foot (29.5-square-metre) space featuring sliding wooden partitions.

Contained within the living space is a kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and home office.

“All these areas are positioned on the edges of the main space, where … natural light comes through the large windows,” reports Homecrux.com

The Taac’s multi-functionality comes from a movable wall. If the wall is placed in the centre, the micro apartment has a drop-down table/desk with built-in storage spaces on both sides.

If moved to the right, space is now created for the folding bed, with room to walk around to the kitchen or the living room.

At this stage, the Taac is still in experimental form — so far, only one can be found in Milan, Italy.

“The project aims to take on technical, functional and ergonomic issues involved in designing a small living space, with the inclusion of fixed and mobile furniture elements,” reports Homecrux.com.

“These elements guarantee different configurations to ensure maximum modern facilities and comfort as in a standard home.”
