Englot posts extra-end win at Roar of the Rings

Regina’s Michelle Englot counted one in an extra end to defeat Allison Flaxey of Caledon, Ont., 8-7 in Thursday’s morning draw at Roar of the Rings — the Canadian Olympic curling trials.

Englot improved her record to 2-4. She’ll play Calgary’s Chelsea Carey in Friday’s afternoon draw.

Galilee Mwarabu scored 12 points to lead the Laval Lions to a 37-33 victory over the Thom Trojans in Regina Intercolle­giate Basketball League junior girls action Wednesday.

Claire Rathgaber led Thom with eight points.

In senior girls action, Cassie Ford scored 21 points for the Winston Knoll Wolverines in their 74-59 victory over the Miller Marauders. Alex Schmidt and Sarah Miller each had 10 points for Miller.

Jacob Standen made 29 saves for the shutout as the Notre Dame Hounds blanked the visiting Kindersley Klippers 5-0 in SJHL action Wednesday.

Chance Longjohn led Notre Dame’s offence with one goal and two assists. The Hounds improved their Olympic Buildings Division-leading record to 19-8-1-3.

Also on Wednesday, the Weyburn Red Wings got two goals from Ben Hiltz in their 4-2 victory over the host Melville Millionair­es.

The Mandi Schwartz Memorial Tournament, for junior and midget AAA female hockey teams, will be held this weekend in Wilcox and Milestone.

The four-day event concludes on Sunday, with the final to be played at Duncan McNeill Arena in Wilcox. The faceoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
