Tartans win Balfour tourney title

The Campbell Tartans won the senior boys title at the Fekula Senior Classic high school basketball tournament Saturday at Balfour Collegiate.

Campbell defeated the Saskatoon Bishop James Mahoney Saints 64-45 in the gold-medal game. The Tartans’ Eriyeza Buwembo was named the tournament’s senior boys MVP.

In the senior girls final, Bishop James Mahoney defeated the Miller Marauders 59-49. The Saints’ Brooklyn Martens was the senior girls MVP.

On Friday, Fofo Adetogun of Notre Dame won the slam-dunk competitio­n. The three-point-shooting contests were won by Jenni Tonita of the Balfour Bears (girls) and Dakota McBride of the Regina Christian Grizzlies (boys).

Kristen Wilson scored 26 points

to lead the Riffel Royals to a 61-56 victory over the Luther Lions in Regina Intercolle­giate Basketball League senior girls action Friday.

Madeleine Tell led Luther with 24 points.

In junior boys action, Luther defeated Riffel 79-63. Riffel defeated Luther 65-32 in a junior girls game.

Mike Beaudry threw for 152 yards and two touchdowns as the University of West Florida Argonauts beat the host Indiana University of Pennsylvan­ia Crimson Hawks in Saturday’s NCAA Division II football semifinal.

The Argonauts advanced to the NCAA national final on Saturday in Kansas City against the Texas A&M University-Commerce Lions, who on Saturday defeated the Harding University Bisons 31-17 in Commerce, Tex.

Beaudry, a redshirt freshman quarterbac­k, grew up in Regina before moving to Orlando, Fla., with his parents when he was 11. The Argonauts qualified for the national final in just their second season in the NCAA Division II football classifica­tion.

He completed 15 of 23 passes as the fourth-ranked Argonauts upset the top-ranked Crimson Hawks.

White City’s Marsha Hudey finished seventh in the women’s 500 metres during the Internatio­nal Skating Union’s long-track speedskati­ng Fall World Cup season.

She was 12th at a weekend World Cup meet in Salt Lake City.

Regina’s Kali Christ was sixth in the women’s 1,500m in Salt Lake City.

Nikolas Gelinas had two goals to lead the Regina Silver Foxes to a 4-2 victory over the Prince Albert Titans in Prairie Junior Hockey League action Saturday at the Doug Wickenheis­er Arena.

Ty Acoose and Dimitri Kourles also scored for the Silver Foxes, who got 40 saves from Shaun Fleming.

Jakob Tournier and Braeden Fiske replied for the Titans, who got 32 saves from Travis Dryka.

Also on Saturday, Landon Longmire had a goal and two assists for the West Central Rage in their 3-2 victory over the Traveland RV Storm at the Pilot Butte Recreation Centre.

Jarett Gerlach and Taylor Schmidt scored for the Storm.

Cole Keenleysid­e scored the lone third-period goal to give the Yorkton Terriers a 4-3 SJHL victory over the Estevan Bruins on Saturday at Farrell Agencies Arena.

Zach Goberis scored his leaguelead­ing 26th goal and added an assist for Estevan.

Also on Saturday, Ben Hiltz had a goal and two assists for the Weyburn Red Wings in their 4-3 victory over the Kindersley Klippers at Crescent Point Place.

Weyburn, which got 41 saves from Arik Weersink, scored all of its goals in the second period.

Meanwhile, Brandan Arnold had two goals and Josh McDougall added three assists to lead the Nipawin Hawks to a 4-2 victory over the Melville Millionair­es at Horizon Credit Union Centre. Arnold has 22 goals in 24 games this season.
