Pat Canadians roar past Battleford­s

The Regina Pat Canadians scored four unanswered goals, including three in the third period, to register a 4-2 victory over the Battleford­s Stars in Saskatchew­an Midget AAA Hockey League action Sunday at the Co-operators Centre.

Battleford­s led 2-0 on goals by Damon McKenzie and Ty Mossiman before Carter Belitski, Jack Glen, Matthew Culling and Adam Herold (with an emptynette­r) replied for Regina. Culling notched the gamewinner at 17:16 of the third period.

The Pat Canadians have a 25-3-2-1 record and 53 points, two more than the second-place Notre Dame Hounds (25-1-0-1). Notre Dame, which has four games in hand, is to play host to the Pat Canadians on Wednesday (8 p.m., Duncan McNeill Arena, Wilcox).

The Cure for the Brrr marathon, half-marathon and loop run were held Saturday in Regina.

Heidi Schmalz of Lumsden and Jon Paradowski of Regina were tied for the longest distance (44 kilometres).

Conor Renouf had the fastest time among male marathoner­s (three hours 16 minutes 18 seconds). Gay Renouf, also of Regina, had the fastest time (4:47:56) among females in the marathon.

In the half-marathon, Rob McLeod was the fastest man (1:36:54) and Lorraine Brezinski posted the best time among females (1:49:47) before running another 11km.

University of Regina Cougars wrestlers Jordan Tholl and Waylon Decoteau placed fourth and fifth, respective­ly at the Ridgewater Open men’s meet in Minnesota on Sunday.
