RPS officers use Taser on man who had a knife

-

Police used a Taser on a man early Friday morning after he refused to drop a knife with which he was threatening to harm himself.

Just before 2:30 a.m., officers arrived at a home on Trifunov Crescent where the man was located.

Upon encountering the man, officers immediately challenged him, but he did not comply with their request for him to drop the weapon, according to a police news release.

As police sensed a high risk of death or bodily harm, an officer used a Taser on the man, the release notes.

Police say the man was examined by emergency medical services and it was determined he was uninjured.

He was taken into custody and the use of a Taser will be reviewed by a use of force committee within the police service. The incident will also be reported to the Saskatchewan Police Commission.

In a separate, earlier event, police attended to a residence on the 1400 block of Garnet Street where it was reported that a gun was fired in a home.

Police were dispatched to the scene shortly after 11:30 p.m. Thursday night and were able to determine that a gun had been fired. No injuries were reported.

No suspects are in custody, but police say the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
