Police probe death after North Central gun incident
Police are investigating the death of a 40-year-old man after an apparent firearms incident in the North Central area Sunday evening.
According to a police news release, officers were called to the 1400 block of Pasqua Street to respond to a report of an injured man at around 8:10 p.m..
At around 8:20 p.m. Sunday, police, firefighters and paramedics were on scene at a residence on that block, from which a person was carried out on a stretcher.
Emergency responders loaded the stretcher into an ambulance and it quickly departed. According to police, the man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The forensic identification and major crimes units, as well as the Office of the Chief Coroner are assisting in the investigation.
At roughly 9:10 p.m., the on-duty Watch Commander for the Regina Police Service described the incident being investigated as a firearm discharge.
Police did not release any further information on the nature of the incident, or on whether the death is being treated as a homicide.
POLICE ALSO FACE SUNDAY CRASH
At around 9:47 that same night, police were at the scene of a vehicle collision, which occurred at the corner of Albert Street and College Avenue.
Officials did not indicate whether the two incidents are related, but the police presence at the scene of the collision was substantial. At least nine police vehicles, marked and unmarked, were stationed in the area with lights flashing.
The Regina Police Service said that a vehicle, reported as stolen, had collided with a police vehicle at the scene.
According to a police news release, the vehicle was first detected around an industrial area in the northeast. It was attempting to evade police heading southbound on Albert Street when the crash occurred.
One man was taken into custody on site, police reported.
Officers remained at the corner to direct traffic while a crime scene investigator photographed the wrecked vehicles.
The investigation into the collision is ongoing and charges against the man are pending.
