Anderson, McKee win provincial senior titles

Darrell McKee and Sherry Anderson, both of Saskatoon, skipped their teams to Saskatchew­an senior curling championsh­ips Sunday in Tisdale.

In the senior men’s final, McKee doubled Regina’s Al Schick 8-4. McKee curls with third Mark Lane, second Dan Kennedy and lead Rodney Antonichuk. Schick’s teammates were Brian McCusker, Dean Hicke and Chris Mitchell.

Anderson then defeated Wadena’s Delores Syrota 6-3 in the senior women’s final. Syrota led 3-2 before Anderson registered deuces in each of the final two ends.

Anderson, who skipped Team Saskatchew­an at the 2018 Scotties Tournament of Hearts, curls with Patricia Hersikorn, Brenda Goertzen and Anita Silvernagl­e. Syrota was joined by Beverly Krasowski, Donna Liebrecht and Sylvia Broad.

The McKee and Anderson teams will represent Saskatchew­an at the Canadian senior championsh­ips, March 24-29 in Stratford, Ont.

The 55th annual Federal

Open Bonspiel concluded Sunday in Regina.

The Mikey’s Awards and Promotions (A) event was won by skip Shane Vollman, third Kevin Fetch, second Garry Janz and lead Bob Son.

The other event winners were: Kris Keating, Jake Ripplinger, Rae-Ann Williamson and Morgan Burns (Barker’s Trophies, B event); Justin Mihalicz, Chris Busby, Raeane Mihalicz and Kara Martinson (Molson Coors, C); Marvin Aubichon, John Papandreos, Brennan Kayter and Bonnie Thiessen (Affinity Credit Union, D); and Daniel Selke, Taylor Robinson, Shelby Brandt and Danae LeDrew (Wine Kitz, E).

Stuart Skinner is the WHL’s goaltender of the week.

In two starts, he had a 1.00 goals-against average, a .966 save percentage and one shutout.
