O’Neill dominates RHSAA wrestling tourney

Archbishop M.C. O’Neill High School won the male and female team titles at the Regina High Schools Athletic Associatio­n wrestling championsh­ips on Saturday.

Individual­ly, these O’Neill wrestlers won gold: Tanya Workman (female 44-kilogram class), Jenna Petryna (female 56kg), Kiana Perron(female 64kg), HeidiGall (female 90kg), Jasmine Duclaux (female 105kg), Noah Zimroz (male 41kg), Tony Anonas (male 47kg), Kordin Gould (male 53kg), Nicholas Zimroz (male 65kg), Michael Ratcliffe (male 77kg) and Isaak Kehler (male130kg).

In the female category, the other gold medallists were Hannah Slater of Martin (50kg ), Eve Neithercut of Miller (53kg), Paige Lekach of LeBoldus (60kg), Serria Abraham of Campbell (68kg), Lillian Penay of Campbell (73kg) and Hannah MacLeod of Johnson (80kg).

The other gold medallists in the maleside were Kai Na of Johnson (50kg), Kungu Fariala of Balfour (56kg), Nate Tymchak of Johnson (59kg), Isaac Parker of LeBoldus (62kg), Vlad Batko of Winston Knoll (69kg ), Ahswin Karunakara­n of Campbell (73kg ), Jordan Stadnik of Miller (82kg), Connor McQuarrie of LeBoldus (90kg), Matthew Klimchuk of Balfour (100kg) and Zohaib Ashfaq of Johnson (115kg ).

The Regina Rebels face host Swift Current Diamond Energy Wildcats Monday in Game 4 of a best-of-five Saskatchew­an Female Midget AAA Hockey League quarter-final. Faceoff is 7:45 p.m. at Fairview Arena.

Swift Current cut Regina’s series lead to 2-1 on Saturday by winning 3-1 at the Co-operators Centre.

Taylor Lind scored two goals and assisted on a goal by Sara Kendall. Lauren Focht scored for Regina.

The Regina Pat Canadians are awaiting the second round of the Saskatchew­an Midget AAA Hockey League playoffs after eliminatin­g the Yorkton RawTec Maulers on Friday. Regina won 3-2 in Yorkton to end a best-of-five quarter-final in four games. Peyton Gorski, Jaydon Dureau and Chase Nameth scored for Regina. Jackson Berezowski had both goals for Yorkton.

The Regina Pats opened a five-game road trip Saturday with a 3-2 overtime victory over the Calgary Hitmen. Sam Steel scored the winner 32 seconds into OT to complete Regina’s comeback from a 2-0 deficit. Regina got third-period goals by Aaron Hyman and Jake Leschyshyn.
