Senior hoops finals tip off this week

The matchups are set for the Regina Intercolle­giate Basketball League’s senior boys and girls championsh­ip games.

On Wednesday, the Tier 2 finals — both of which will feature the Regina Christian Grizzlies — will be held at O’Neill. Regina Christian will face the Harvest City Reapers in the girls final (6:15 p.m.) and the Thom Trojans for the boys title (8 p.m.).

The LeBoldus Golden Suns will be involved in both Tier 1 finals Friday at Luther College High School’s Semple Gymnasium.

At 6:15 p.m., LeBoldus will face the O’Neill Titans in the girls final, with a Golden Suns-Campbell Tartans boys matchup to follow at 8 p.m.

The James Hom rink from LeBoldus completed an unbeaten season Saturday in Spiritwood by winning the Saskatchew­an High Schools Athletic Associatio­n’s senior boys curling title.

Skip Hom, third Nathan Harty, second Jonathan Craig Penner, lead Braden Breit and alternate Michael Hom won city, regional and provincial championsh­ips. They were coached by Brad Breit.

The Hom rink won every game except one that finished in a tie.

The Regina Pat Canadians will play host to the Prince Albert Mintos on Wednesday in Game 3 of a bestof-five Saskatchew­an Midget AAA Hockey League semifinal.

The opening faceoff is set for 8 p.m. at the Co-operators Centre.

Prince Albert leads the series 2-0, having won 4-3 in Regina on Thursday and 4-0 at home on Sunday.

Regina finished second in the regular season standings with a 35-6-2-1 record. Prince Albert (329-2-1) was third.

In the other semifinal, the Notre Dame Hounds hold a 2-0 lead over the Swift Current Legionnair­es. Game 3 is set for Thursday at 8 p.m. at Duncan McNeill Arena in Wilcox.

Notre Dame has won all five of its playoff games after posting a 39-21-2 record in the regular season. The Lonsdale Boxing Club will present Battle of the Prairies XIX — an Olympic-style card — on Friday and Sunday.

Male and female boxers from Western Canada will face opponents from Ireland.

Friday’s card will be held at the Conexus Arts Centre beginning at 7:30 p.m.

The Sunday bouts, which get underway at 1 p.m., will take place at the Lonsdale Boxing Club (1361 Halifax St.).

Halbgewach­s, from Emerald Park, scored seven goals while adding five assists in four games.
