SATURDAY, MARCH 17, 2018 St. Patrick’s Day New Moon

The new moon on St. Patrick’s Day suggests that this celebration will not only be one of heritage but also of spiritual bonding. Old grievances will be put to rest. New intentions will get off on the right foot. Say a prayer for the evolution of your soul and the soul of the planet. Mars enters Capricorn today, too, lending power to the purpose. ARIES (March 21-April 19). Anticipation can enhance or detract from an experience. The wait can make the experience seem more amazing, or, if it wasn’t worth the wait, underwhelming. Before you play the waiting game, calculate your odds.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). Take the relationship on your terms, not the other person’s. Hopefully both of your terms match up pretty well so you don’t have to make a big deal out of this. But if it happens that you have to choose, choose yourself. GEMINI (May 21-June 21). You’ll prove your value to others then add more value and then double that. It’s really not for them. This is like the reps a bodybuilder does to get into top form. Your reps are building your character.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). As for grabbing the brass ring, the way to do it is to take a calculated and confident leap. Don’t impulsively lunge for it: You may lose your balance. If you’re not quite ready this time, let it pass. Wait until it comes around again.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). You’re getting increasingly invested in a casual arrangement, and it’s time to make sure you’re getting something back. Think about what’s fair, and then think about what you really want, fair or not. VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). For the majority, memory is among the more imperfect record-keeping systems. And even though yours is better than most, don’t rely on memory for what’s precious to you. LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). It’s an ugly thing when the privileged undervalue their gifts. You certainly wouldn’t want to commit that crime. (You might be surprised who sees you as privileged.) Don’t devalue what you have with overly modest words. SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). Your favorite relationships of the weekend will be the ones that promise you excitement, fun, connection and mutual respect. Actually, they don’t even have to promise: An implication will be enough to go on. SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). While some scientific evidence suggests that enlarging your social circle may lengthen your life, other studies point to the healthful necessity of solitude. Whether you give love to them or you, love is still the answer. CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). The energy of judging people is rotten regardless of the semantics. The verbiage is really irrelevant because it all boils down to the same tone of superiority. Leave the conversation. Go where you feel the love. AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). You’d rather not give the situation a definition or a label just yet. You’re enjoying yourself! The fun you’re having is contagious, and your playful spirit keeps it continuous as well.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). You are open to the gift of intuition and will be frequently and boldly guided by divine forces. Through this month, keep asking your higher self what the most advantageous next step might be. TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (March 17). Creating your own joy is your chief responsibility. You’ll have the guts to decide what’s important and dismiss the rest. Because your loved ones mean so much to you, their needs make it on the list, too -- but you’ve healthy boundaries about this. May and August show the opportunity to transcend routine. Capricorn and Libra adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 7, 13, 49, 12 and 1.

ASTROLOGICAL QUESTION: “Will we stay together? My birthday is May 28, 1950, and his is Sept. 1, 1952.”

You are two very different kinds of people, but you can work through any problem if you try. You’re a Gemini with your moon in relationshiporiented Libra. Libra moon people are usually flirtatious, cooperative and able to charm even a partner they have known seemingly forever. And that quick-witted Gemini sun tells me that you are probably the usual one to bring up something new and interesting at the dinner table and that you have ideas about what fun trends to try next. You are ever young and fresh. As for him, a Virgo sun and Venus in Virgo too suggest that he’s more subdued, with an appealing sort of restraint. He’s probably very helpful, emotionally strong and steadfast most of the time. He has natal Mars in Sagittarius, which shows a tendency to travel for work. And he may have the habit of envying other people’s circumstances. His desire to make his life as glamorous as the life he perceives others to have is a motivating force. You can help him learn to appreciate what he has and realize that nobody has anything better. CELEBRITY PROFILES: In Rob Lowe’s acclaimed memoir, “Stories I Only Tell My Friends,” the Pisces superstar (with Mars in this psychic sign, too) chronicles key moments in his life when his intuition and foresight served him well. Though following his keen instinct has led to many career successes, Lowe is most effusive and celebratory about his family and the choice to make a life with wife Sheryl Berkoff.

Aries Moon Demands Your Best

Your best -- that’s all you can do, and it’s always going to be enough. Note that your best is going to be something different from moment to moment. The Aries moon suggests that your best will be in a sweet spot between the lazy way and the way of desperately trying to do too much. (Both of those extremes serve no one.) ARIES (March 21-April 19). Knowledge is the bread of life, and taking action is the meaty part of the sandwich. But constant action will be the thing that makes a difference. No one can live long off one sandwich. TAURUS (April 20-May 20). The change you desire is coming, though not immediately. Don’t worry about the schedule. Every time you practice moving toward the goodness of life, you create momentum in that direction. GEMINI (May 21-June 21). Don’t let the obstacles get in the way of what you want to do. If you can’t figure out how to conquer or control them, there is great power in ignoring them. Eventually, the troubles will fall away all by themselves. CANCER (June 22-July 22). Water transports nutrients and chemical messages to the vital organs. Being even 2 cups dehydrated can cause a mood swing in a negative direction. Stay happy. Stay hydrated. LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). Don’t be afraid to try new things. Whatever you get into today, there will be a way out. It may be about going back. It may be about climbing up. But more than likely, the way out is through. VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). To be alive is different from feeling alive. You notice the difference particularly when you’re around a certain person. That quickening -- there’s nothing quite like it. LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). You didn’t get yourself into this position, but you’re still the one who has to get yourself out of it. Buddha said: “No one saves us but ourselves. No one can, and no one may. We ourselves must walk the path.” SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). It turns out that the small things that make life

great -- enjoying the sun, breathing fresh, sweet air, a wholesome taste, a gentle touch -- are not such small things after all. Just ask anyone who can’t do them. SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). Dare to leave your safety zone at least once a day. It doesn’t have to be a big gesture. Just enough to trigger your fear will do. Success sequence: Trigger your fear; overcome; repeat. CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). When the pressure builds and you start feeling anxious -- some days, that would be a sign to press on through. Not this time. Take a break! There’s nothing good that comes from overwork today. AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). People experience their own state of mind for their own reasons. You may be caught in the emotional weather of this, but don’t take it any more personally than you would an actual rainstorm. PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). Here’s a way to avoid worrying about where to take a relationship next. At some point in your interaction, lay down the groundwork for your next interaction, whatever you want that to be. Envision it, and act on that picture. TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (March 18). Life’s process is working. You trust it, and you are steadily growing into who you want to be. The victory in May will be hard-won (and that’s the only kind worth anything). In August, you’ve an opportunity to turn a potential misfortune into a future fortune. Someone special helps you further develop your talent in September. Aries and Virgo adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 4, 14, 7, 39 and 45. FORECAST FOR THE WEEK

AHEAD: One would think that every decade lived would bring a huge leap of understanding about the basics of life. Nope. Not really. What comes with maturity isn’t so much tremendous knowing as it is a willingness to admit what you don’t know -- and that’s actually an extremely useful perk of age. People may be attracted to others who share their knowledge, but that connection becomes a bond through a shared sense of wonder, common questions and vulnerabilities.

Tuesday brings the spring equinox. The sun enters the first sign of the zodiac, Aries, which represents new life. Don’t be afraid to start over. There’s luck in being the new guy or girl. Beginnings will bring bonuses and other twists of unexpected good fortune. Attitude will be key in this. There’s nothing worse than a newbie who comes into a situation too insecure to ask questions. Don’t assume or pretend to know anything, or you’ll bug those who do. Not to mention that assumed knowledge closes you off to learning.

The early week will be the luckiest time to kick off your project, your class, a relationship or another endeavor. By Thursday, things get more complicated because Mercury goes retrograde.

CELEBRITY PROFILES: Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine is a musical Pisces with Mars in that artistic sign, as well. Levine was born when the moon was in sensual Scorpio, a position that indicates magnetic appeal and either an intensely private or a shocking public nature. Levine falls into the latter category, as he’s known to bare all for a good cause, which he did to promote awareness of testicular cancer.
