The LeBoldus Golden Suns were golden at Hoopla.

The senior girls basketball team beat the Saskatoon Aden Bowman Bears 63-47 in Saturday’s 5A Saskatchewan High Schools Athletic Association championship goldmedal game in Prince Albert.

Ella Farthing, a Grade 11 point guard, led the Golden Suns with 19 points. Anna Weibe had 14 points for the Bears.

“I’m so excited,” Farthing told Evan Radford of the Prince Albert Daily Herald. “It was such a good experience. My whole team had so much fun, especially because we’re so young and we only have one Grade 12 on our team. It’s a huge accomplishment that we won provincials in Prince Albert.”

Saturday’s result was the sixth medal at Hoopla since 1997 for the Golden Suns’ girls teams. LeBoldus won provincial championships in 1997, 2006, 2007 and 2013 and a bronze medal in 2014.

“We came ready to play and usually we don’t come for the full 40 minutes,” Farthing said. “We were energized (Saturday) for the full 40 minutes and we were all in for the game.”

Farthing is already looking forward to next season with the Golden Suns.

“We have a great foundation for (next year),” Farthing said. “I think we’re going to do very well next year and the year after that because we have a great junior team, too.”
