Big night for Japan at WCP Cup tourney

Japan won two of the four championsh­ips decided Tuesday at the WCP Cup soccer tournament.

In the under-12 girls final, Japan defeated Ukraine 3-1. Samira Minor, Ezra Posehn and Naomi Strom scored for Japan. Janaya Lang replied for Ukraine at the Credit Union EventPlex.

Japan also won 3-1 in the under-17 girls final, defeating Brazil. Lexi Frei, Autumn Orthner and Gracie Anderson were the goal scorers for Japan. Isabella Salazar scored for Brazil.

Ireland edged Japan 3-2 in the under-13 girls championsh­ip match. Megan Fear, with two goals, and Jenna Muir scored for Japan. Ajok Madol had both goals for Brazil.

In the under-12 boys final, Koen Patryna had two goals to lead Jamaica to a 5-1 victory over France.

Kylan Harden, Hayden Ginter and Tanner Donovel also scored for Jamaica. Owen Parritt tallied for France.

The Extreme Hockey Regina Capitals have a chance to wrap up their second consecutiv­e Prairie Junior Hockey League title Thursday.

The Capitals assumed a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven championsh­ip series Tuesday by defeating the host Delisle Chiefs 7-2.

Two-goal, two-assist performanc­es by Taylor Kreutzer and Fraiser Belanger led the Capitals’ attack in Game 4. Levi Petrinchuk, Dylan Jones and Brayden Cockwill also scored for the Capitals, who got 34 saves from Jordan Schmuland.

Graham Gove and Ryden Ross replied for Delisle, which got 24 saves from Justin Gauthier.

Thursday ’s game is set for 7:45 p.m. at the Al Ritchie Memorial Centre.
