Shots fired by RCMP during pursuit of stolen Regina taxi

-

Two people are in custody after RCMP officers responded to a gas station theft in Lashburn involving a taxi that had been stolen in Regina.

One or more officers fired shots during the pursuit on Saturday of the man and woman in the stolen taxi, according to an RCMP news release. The taxi driver, whose Dodge Caravan was stolen on Friday, was stabbed and seriously injured during that incident, requiring surgery in hospital.

At about 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Maidstone RCMP received the complaint of a gas station theft in Lashburn.

Officers located the taxi cab van on Highway 16 and activated their emergency equipment, but the van did not stop, according to RCMP.

Maidstone and North Battleford RCMP followed the van eastbound until the van stopped west of Delmas and “a firearm was discharged from the van,” the news release said.

“This resulted in an RCMP member discharging their firearm,” RCMP said.

An RCMP vehicle then struck the van, which became stuck in the ditch.

“A firearm was pointed toward members and an RCMP member discharged their firearm,” the news release said.

A police dog helped in the arrest of the adult man and woman at the scene.

The woman was treated for minor injuries caused by the police dog. No RCMP members were injured.
