Attempted murder charge laid in connection with alleged shooting

A 15-year-old boy has been charged with attempted murder after he allegedly shot an 18-year-old man early Monday morning.

It is alleged that the 18-year-old was walking in the area of 8th Avenue and Cameron Street when a vehicle approached and a male got out and shot at the victim, according to a police news release. The injured man made it home on foot and was taken to the Pasqua Hospital by a family member. Police were dispatched for reports of a gunshot wound around 6:11 a.m. The victim’s injuries are non-life-threatenin­g.

Shortly after 8:40 a.m., police responded to reports of mischief at a residence on the 4800 block of Sherwood Drive, where a window was broken. Police were dispatched to the same home at 10:15 a.m. for a report of a firearm. Officers received reports that a vehicle drove up to the house and a passenger pointed a firearm and drove away. The vehicle matched the descriptio­n of the vehicle involved in the shooting, and was located around the 900 block of Royal Street. Four suspects fled and the vehicle was seized.

An investigat­ion led police to a house on the same block and the four suspects were arrested. A search of the residence found a firearm, pepper spray and substances believed to be methamphet­amine, cocaine and marijuana.

The 15-year-old faces 20 charges, including attempted murder, reckless discharge of a prohibited firearm, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and possession of a substance for the purpose of traffickin­g.

A 19-year-old and a 17-year-old are charged with possession of a substance for the purpose of traffickin­g and failure to comply with a probation order. Another 15-yearold boy is charged with possession of a weapon obtained by crime, possession of a weapon, a failure to comply and possession of a substance for the purpose of traffickin­g.
