Saskatchewan Roughrider star receiver Duron Carter’s second court appearance on a marijuana possession charge laid earlier this year lasted just minutes and ended with a second adjournment.

Carter, 26, was not present in Saskatoon provincial court on Thursday. His lawyer, Reginabased Louis Mercier, appeared by phone and requested the adjournment as Carter is out of the country.

The Fort Lauderdale, Fla. native, who signed with the Riders in January 2017, is expected to return to court on June 14, once he returns to his “place of employment,” as Mercier put it.

Mercier said he needed time to review Crown disclosure with his client before proceeding.

Carter was arrested at the Saskatoon airport late on Feb. 1. Canada Border Services Agency officers called police after stopping a traveller to search his bags and finding marijuana. He was subsequently charged with possession.

“I know I know. Life,” the receiver — who played for the Montreal Alouettes before joining the Riders — tweeted shortly after he was arrested. The tweet was accompanied with a “facepalm” emoji.

Carter led the team in receiving yards during the 2017 season, and was named a West Division and CFL all-star, as well as the Roughriders’ most outstanding player. His contract was extended by a year shortly before his arrest.

The receiver was previously arrested for marijuana possession in Winnipeg late last year.
