Woitas, Taylor win two golds at SHSAA provincial­s

Kailee Woitas of Miller won three medals, including two golds, at the Saskatchew­an High Schools Athletic Associatio­n track and field championsh­ips in Prince Albert on the weekend.

Competing in the midget girls division, Woitas won the triple jump and long jump. She also placed third in the 100 metres.

Riffel’s Vaughn Taylor was the Regina High Schools Athletic Associatio­n’s other double gold medallist. He won the senior boys 200m and 400m.

Taylor was also presented with an Athletics Canada scholarshi­p — one of only two that will be awarded across Canada this year.

Matthew Exner of Riffel was the other individual gold medallist from Regina. He won the senior boys 800m and was second to Taylor in the 400m.

Sheldon-Williams athletes Cole Fay (midget boys 1,500m and 3,000m) and Ron MacLean (senior boys 1,500m and 3,000m) each won two silver medals.

The RHSAA’s other silver medallists were Harriet Toth of Martin (midget girls pole vault), Jesse Fischer of O’Neill (midget boys pole vault), Ally Kosteniuk of Martin ( junior girls quadrathlo­n), Amou Madol of O’Neill (senior girls high jump), Lukas Croteau of Johnson (senior boys 100m), Jeromy Peach of O’Neill (senior boys high jump) and Jaden Litzenberg­er of Riffel (senior boys pole vault).

Eight athletes from the RHSAA won bronze medals — Victoria Walter of Campbell (midget girls high jump), John Paul Cruz of Luther (midget boys triple jump), Claire Ledingham of Luther ( junior girls quadrathlo­n), Madelyn Kaban of Campbell ( junior girls 3,000m), Kaylee Tymo of Thom (senior girls 3,000m), Irelyn Toth of Campbell (senior girls 200m), Katie Wood of Miller (senior girls shot put) and Ifeoluwa Adebogun of O’Neill (senior boys long jump).

The Regina Optimist Dolphins’ Michael McGillivra­y closed out the Best Fest Open Water Swim Festival in Mallorca on Thursday by winning a gold medal in the male seven-kilometre event.

He raced in four of the eight events, winning three and finishing second in the other.

Notre Dame won both titles at the Saskatchew­an high school 15s rugby championsh­ips at Regina Rugby Park on Saturday.

Notre Dame defeated the Saskatoon Springboks 41-21 in the boys final and blanked the Saskatoon Sirens 68-0 to win the girls championsh­ip.
