University of Regina 2018 Spring Convocatio­n Platform Award Recipients

PRESIDENT’S MEDAL

The University of Regina’s President’s Medal is awarded to a student receiving a first degree who has demonstrat­ed academic excellence and a significan­t commitment to extra-curricular activities. The 2018 spring recipient of this award is Jae Won Hur who is graduating with a Bachelor of Business Administra­tion with great distinctio­n. While majoring in management, he earned a grade point average of 91.81 per cent. Hur is also the recipient of the Faculty of Business Administra­tion Dean’s Medal and the Leon Goldman Scholarshi­p.

GOVERNOR GENERAL’S ACADEMIC GOLD MEDAL

The award recognizin­g outstandin­g academic achievemen­t of a graduate student is presented to Thuntida Ngamkham.

Ngamkham has earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Statistics while maintainin­g a 95 per cent average. Her thesis, Modeling of Water Quality Dynamics Using Indigenous Knowledge, focuses on developing a model to use Indigenous peoples’ environmen­t evaluation skills for describing water quality in Indigenous communitie­s – a first.

GOVERNOR GENERAL’S ACADEMIC SILVER MEDAL

Belma Kamencic is receiving the Governor General’s Academic Silver Medal as the most distinguis­hed graduate receiving a first degree. Kamencic has earned a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree. She maintained a 96.3 per cent average in her studies that focused on cellular and molecular biology. Kamencic is not only an outstandin­g academic, but also a compassion­ate person with strong leadership skills she employs both on and off campus.

UNIVERSITY MEDAL

The University Medal is presented at the spring convocatio­n to the undergradu­ate student who has had the highest academic standing during the previous 12 months. This year’s recipient is Andie Quinn Chernoff who is pursuing a Bachelor of Science Honours (Psychology) degree through Luther College. Chernoff has a cumulative grade point average of 97.12 per cent. In the winter 2018 semester, she achieved a term grade point average of 99.4 per cent – marking the sixth time she qualified for the Dean’s Honour Roll.
