Athletes Donnelly, Wood earn Lorne Aston Scholarshi­ps

Josh Donnelly of LeBoldus and Katie Wood of Miller were presented with Lorne Aston Scholarshi­ps at the Regina High Schools Athletic Associatio­n’s awards luncheon Thursday.

Dr. Paul Schwann Humanitari­an Awards went to Madison Walter and Joshua Anderson, both of Sheldon-Williams.

Celeste Bird and Bemnet Frederick, both of Sheldon, received Jack MacKenzie Perseveran­ce Awards.

Also honoured were Harrison Lars-Hansen of Campbell (Ron Pettigrew Citizenshi­p Award), Lance Ford (Saskatchew­an High Schools Athletic Associatio­n Service Award) and George Rondeau (SHSAA Officials Award).

Cymone Bernauer and Jeremy Sundeen received SHSAA Coaching Awards.

Dave Ripplinger and Scott McLaren were presented with RHSAA Merit Awards for service/ coaching.

Bob Baragar, Kelly Cozine, Garrett Kot, Lyle Morley and Sandra Surkan received Wilma Downing Coaching Awards (20-year plaques).

Ten-year plaques were presented to Bernauer, Ryan Bruce, Heather Findlay, Quinton Jackson, Jody Kuster, Kyle McFetridge and Derek Pilon.

Adam Husli, Jack Fischer and Alex Schmidt were the gold medallists at Wednesday’s RHSAA golf championsh­ips.

Husli won the junior boys division. Adam Kydd, also of Martin, placed second, followed by Campbell’s Aiden Shanks.

In the senior boys division, Fisher (from Campbell) was first. Willie Chang of Miller was the silver medallist. Campbell’s Jacob Kydd was third.

Schmidt, of Miller, won the female division. She was followed by Ashley Zado of Balfour and Autumn Neiszner of Campbell.

Led by Dwayne Redman Jr., the Standing Buffalo Dakotas blanked the Piapot Wolfpack 3-0 in Western Cycle Rambler Park Fastball League action Tuesday.

Redman pitched a completega­me, seven-inning shutout, striking out 15.

Also on Tuesday, it was: Muskowekwa­n Pride 8, Rampage 7; Moose Jaw Giants 8, Alpha Constructi­on Hawks 3; and, Moose Jaw Canadians 5, Pasqua A’s 1.

On Wednesday, the Little Black Bear Blues got home runs from Mickey Lavallee and Andy Tuckanow in a 13-2 victory over the Piapot Padres, and the Earl Grey Rockets and Best Buds played to a 4-4 tie.

Jordan Schulz homered for the Rockets. Jay Agecoutay cleared the fence for Best Buds.

Amanda Dacey hit a grand slam to power Elite Auto Body to a 14-3 victory over Ochapowace in Regina Ladies Softball Associatio­n action Tuesday.

Also at Douglas Park, the Thunder got a home run from Chantelle Mitchell en route to defeating the Mystics 20-3, Brieanne Oshanek was the winning pitcher as the Lumsden Under-19s blanked Dakota Winyan 12-0, the Lumsden Under-21s defeated the Kaos 10-4, and Dakota Winyan edged Ochapowace 21-20.

On Wednesday, Mik Etheridge homered for the Sleek in its 16-0 victory over the Extreme. The Sleek also defeated the Riot 11-2.

In Wednesday’s other games, it was: Kaos 9, Extreme 0; Diamondbac­ks 9, Fusion 5; and, Storm 13, T4 Ladies 0.

The Regina Red Sox are preparing for a pair of Western Major Baseball League weekend road games.

Regina is to oppose the Yorkton Cardinals on Saturday (7:05 p.m., Jubilee Park) before visiting the Swift Current 57s on Sunday (2:05 p.m., Mitchell Field).

The Red Sox will then have backto-back home games — Monday against the Weyburn Beavers and Tuesday versus the Moose Jaw Miller Express. Both games are set for 7:05 p.m., at Currie Field.

Regina was to play host to Weyburn on Thursday night. On Wednesday, Weyburn defeated Regina 7-3 at Tom Laing Park.

Deer Valley defeated Tor Hill 96.593.5 on Wednesday in the opener of the Regina and Area Match Play League.

Victorious golfers from Deer Valley were Sam Wills, Tom Kellett, Todd Obrigewits­ch, Brian Obrigewits­ch and Darcy Schader.

Daryl Davies, Lonnie Jones, Larry Lafrentz and Al Majore registered victories for Tor Hill.

Jordan Anderson (Tor Hill) and Josh Whitrow (Deer Valley) played to a draw.

Alex Thompson had a hole-in-one on the Joanne Goulet Golf Course’s fifth hole Wednesday.

The feat was witnessed by Jay Thompson.
