Rower excels at Western Canada Sprints

Thomas Malkewich celebrated four victories Saturday at the 41st Western Canada Sprints regatta, hosted by the Regina Rowing Club.

Malkewich, from Regina, was first in lightweigh­t men’s single sculls and open men’s single sculls.

He also teamed with Zeyad Aboudheir to win lightweigh­t men’s doubles. Malkewich, Aboudheir, Ben Hersche and Rogan Noble won the open men’s quad event.

Regina rowers also placed first in master’s women’s single sculls (Donna Ell) and lightweigh­t women’s doubles (Lily Jedlic, Stella McLeod). Hersche, Wisam Ashique, Hayden Simair and Seamus Dodds were second in the junior men’s quad.

The Weyburn Beavers improved

their record to 8-0 Monday by registerin­g a 12-6 Western Major Baseball League win over the Regina Red Sox at Currie Field.

Drake Pilat had a homer, two doubles and three RBI for Weyburn. Wesley Moss had three hits and two runs for Regina, which carried a 3-4 slate into Tuesday’s home game against the Moose Jaw Miller Express.

Brad Flanagan homered for Silver Screen Sportswear as it defeated the Pasqua A’s 8-1 in Western Cycle Rambler Park Fastball League action Monday.

In Monday ’s other game at Rambler Park, Jaxson Lewis homered as the Moose Jaw Canadians beat the Earl Grey Rockets 13-1.

Heather Weger was the winning pitcher as the Vipers defeated the Raiders 15-2 in Regina Ladies Softball Associatio­n on Monday.

In other games Monday at Douglas Park, it was: Senior Saints 23, Ochapowace 7; Iskotew 14, Vipers 4; and, Lumsden Under-19s 15, Bomb Squad 5.
