Riot team jerseys, stolen van recovered

-

The Regina Riot’s jerseys will need a good cleaning after being found inside Bre Deren’s stolen van in west Regina on Monday.

When the football team’s equipment manager went to see her van at SGI on Tuesday afternoon, a stench hit her.

“It’s extremely, extremely filled with smoke and other smells,” said Deren. “It was so incredibly bad, I could hardly be in there to take things out.”

The van was stolen on June 10 from the driveway of Deren’s south Regina home.

The Regina Police Service recovered the 2016 white Chrysler Town & Country abandoned in the 4800 block of 8th Avenue.

With the uniforms in her possession, Deren’s next step is to count them to make sure they’re all there, then take them to Seaspray Laundry for a cleaning.

The Riot played Sunday at Mosaic Stadium in borrowed jerseys from the Regina Thunder.

It remains to be seen which uniforms they ’ll wear this Sunday, the Western Women’s Canadian Football League championship final against the Saskatoon Valkyries.

“I guess everyone should come out and watch and see which uniforms we will be wearing,” Deren said laughing.

Deren will take a closer look at her van on Monday at SGI. One car seat is missing, and the remaining three smell of smoke.

Deren has five young foster children with her wife Amery Deren; the van was their way of transporting everyone to a variety of children’s activities.

According to police, an investigation into the theft is ongoing. The Regina Police Service is asking anyone with information on this incident to contact the Regina Police Service at 306-777-6500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
