Schlechter foundation tournament goesJuly23

The second annual Ryan Schlechter Foundation Memorial Golf Tournament is scheduled for July 23 at the Royal Regina Golf Club.

Schlechter was 36 when he took his own life in 2016 after struggling with depression.

The goal of the Schlechter foundation is to fund, promote and spread awareness of mental health and initiative­s related to suicide prevention, addiction and other related illnesses.

The Rampage won a slugfest in Regina Ladies Softball Associatio­n action Tuesday, defeating the Vipers 14-13.

In Tuesday’s other game at the Douglas Park diamonds, the Senior Saints defeated Dakota Winyan 182. Landace McClughan was the winning pitcher.

The University of Regina Cougars women’s hockey team is to open its 28-game Canada West regular season Oct. 5 against the visiting Mount Royal Cougars.

The Cougars men’s hockey team opens its season Sept. 28 in Calgary against Mount Royal. The home opener is Oct. 12 against the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns.

In women’s volleyball, the U of R will open its regular season Oct. 19 against the Trinity Western Spartans in Langley, B.C. The Cougars’ home opener is Oct. 26 against the University of Winnipeg Wesmen.

Alfie Bear had two home runs as the Alpha Constructi­on Hawks defeated the Muskowekwa­n Pride 11-1 in Western Cycle Rambler Park Fastball League action Tuesday.

Jayden Isaac and Anthony Bear also homered in support of winning pitcher J.J. Poitras.

Also on Tuesday at Rambler Park, Xavier Tremblay got the win as the Moose Jaw Canadians defeated the Pasqua A’s 10-2.
