Roughrider­s add Brooks to defensive line

The Saskatchew­an Roughrider­s have signed internatio­nal defensive tackle Mic’hael Brooks, who was a CFL West Division all-star with the B.C. Lions in 2015.

The Lions had released the 6-foot-3, 295-pound Brooks on May 18. TSN’s Farhan Lalji reported at the time that the Lions cut Brooks, 26, after attempts to trade him were unsuccessf­ul.

Brooks spent three seasons with the Lions after NFL stints with the Detroit Lions and Seattle Seahawks.

The Regina Red Sox are

to return to action Tuesday against the host Swift Current 57s.

Regina’s Western Major Baseball League team will then oppose the Yorkton Cardinals on Wednesday, 7 p.m., at Currie Field. Yorkton was in Regina for a Sunday doublehead­er. On Friday at Currie Field, Evan Rogers threw his second consecutiv­e complete-game shutout to lead Regina to a 6-0 win over the Melville Millionair­es.

Rogers allowed only four hits while striking out 10.

Phil Langlois of the Red Sox reached base five times. He had a double and three walks and was also hit by a pitch. Wesley Moss added two hits and two RBI.

Winning pitcher Anthony Kaiswatum had

two home runs for the Rampage as they defeated the Piapot Wolfpack 14-3 in Western Cycle Rambler Park Fastball League action Friday.

Eddie Cappo and Talon Desjarlais also homered for the Rampage.

In Friday’s other game at Rambler Park, the Muskowekwa­n Pride defeated the Piapot Padres 11-9. The game included homers by Theryn Ballantyne (Pride) and CL Bear (Padres).

The Rage defeated the Condors

29-17 in an under-18 girls match Thursday at Regina Rugby Park.

In Thursday’s other girls match, Notre Dame defeated the Rogues 55-15. In under-18 boys action, the Grads downed the Highlander­s 78-10.

The Canada and U.S.A. Rugby

Classics — teams comprising former internatio­nal players from those countries — are to play their annual exhibition match July 14, 2 p.m., at Regina Rugby Park.

The Canadian roster will include alumni from the Prairie Fire, which was a Regina-based side in the Rugby Canada Super League.
