Yorkton products gun for national U-18 team

Two Yorkton products are among 44 players who have been offered tryouts with the Canadian under-18 hockey team for the 2018 Hlinka Gretzky Cup.

Saskatoon Blades goalie Nolan Maier and Kelowna Rockets defenceman Kaedan Korczak have been invited to the selection camp that takes place in late July in Calgary.

Swift Current Broncos defenceman Jacson Alexander from Victoria also received an invitation.

The under-18 tournament runs from Aug. 6-11 in Red Deer and Edmonton.

The Regina Red Sox will meet the Yorkton Cardinals in Western Major Baseball League action on Wednesday. The first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m., at Currie Field.

Regina was in Swift Current to face the 57s on Tuesday.

Carson Harcourt of Golf Kenosee won the 12th annual Saskatchewan Men’s PubLinx Championship on the weekend at the Tor Hill Golf Course.

Harcourt, who won the amateur and overall titles, shot a two-round score of 141 (72-69).

Kade Johnson of Yorkton’s Deer Park Golf Club was one stroke off the pace (72-70).

Rob Schneider of Tor Hill shot a 146 (72-74) to win the senior title.

Alfie Bear, Chris Bear and Terrell Walker homered for the Alpha Construction Hawks in their 9-1 victory over Silver Screen Sportswear in Western Cycle Rambler Park Fastball League action Monday.

Aubrie Houk was the winning pitcher as the Diamondbacks defeated the Saints 7-5 in Regina Ladies Softball Association action Monday.

In Monday ’s other games at Douglas Park, it was: Rampage 7, Bomb Squad 0; Rampage 4, Saints 4; Lumsden Under-19s 7, Mystics 0; and Dakota Winyan 7, Piapot 0.

Regina Rugby Union teams travelled to Saskatoon on Saturday to play interlocking matches.

In Division 1 men’s matches, the results were: Saskatoon Wild Oats 46, Regina Rogues 14; Saskatoon Krems 24, Regina Highlanders 17; Saskatoon Badgers 60, Campion Grads 5; and, Saskatoon Gophers 21, Regina Condors 15.

In a Division 2 men’s match, the Prince Albert Whiskeyjacks defeated the Regina Highlanders 32-7.
