Red Sox, Mavericks meet twice this week

The Regina Red Sox are preparing for back-to-back Western Major Baseball League home games against the Medicine Hat Mavericks.

The games are set for Tuesday and Wednesday, 7:05 p.m., at Currie Field.

Regina carried a 19-9 record into Monday’s home game with the Moose Jaw Miller Express.

On Sunday, the host Weyburn Beavers defeated Regina 5-1 to improve their Eastern Divisionle­ading record to 23-7.

Winning pitcher Ryan Johnson allowed only three hits over seven innings while striking out eight. Felix Correa homered for Weyburn, which assumed a threegame lead over the second-place Red Sox.

The Regina Optimist Dolphins won

the team title for the fifth consecutiv­e year at the ManSask long-course provincial swimming championsh­ips in Saskatoon on the weekend.

The Dolphins registered 4,560 points, three times more than any other team. Dolphins swimmers won 58 individual medals and six relay medals.

On the men’s side, the Dolphins’ Noah Wagner won seven individual medals and teammate Matthew Sygriannis added six. Female swimmers Mya Thompson, Alice DeCoteau and Emma Spence each won four medals.

Eight members of the Regina

Piranhas won medals for finishing in the top three in their age groups for aggregate points during the Swift Current Invitation­al Summer Swim Meet on Saturday.

Adrien Lapierre (9-10 boys division), Gavriel Moroz (13-14 boys), Elizabeth Johnson (11-12 girls) and Josie Sylvestre (15-17 girls) won gold medals.

Simone Lapierre (11-12 girls) and Elizabeth Markatos (13-14 girls) won silver medals. The Piranhas’ bronze medallists were Luke Binns (9-10 boys) and Elias Crichlow (13-14 boys).

Regina Rowing Club members Thomas

Markewich and Brenna Randall have been named to a Rowing Canada team that is to compete in the upcoming under-21 Trans-Tasman Series.

Markewich and Randall are to compete against rowers from the Australian and New Zealand national teams from Aug. 23-25 on Lake Karapiro in New Zealand.
