Teen charged in Ontario homicide arrested in northern Saskatchewan
SASKATOON A teenage boy charged with second-degree murder in Ontario has been taken into custody in northern Saskatchewan, according to police.
Peel Regional Police had issued a Canada-wide arrest warrant for the 17-year-old male, who was wanted in connection with the death of 19-year-old Daniel Smith on May 26.
Smith was found fatally injured in a Mississauga home.
On Wednesday, a person matching the teen’s description was seen by RCMP members in the Pinehouse Lake area, and then ran into the bush. The teen was taken into custody “without incident,” RCMP said in a news release issued at 6:05 p.m. Wednesday.
Pinehouse is about 500 kilometres north of Saskatoon.
According to a report in the Toronto Sun, Smith was fatally stabbed while he tried to break up a fight during a house party that had been thrown to celebrate prom.
