Nagy, Fry win provincial junior golf championsh­ips

Josh Nagy and Brooklin Fry are the 2018 Saskatchew­an junior golf champions.

Nagy won the junior men’s title Wednesday in Saskatoon with a three-round score of 7-over-par 223.

Bradley Moser, also of Saskatoon, was one stroke off the pace. Deer Valley’s Cole Obrigewits­ch placed third, three shots back of Nagy.

At the junior women’s provincial­s, also in Saskatoon, Fry — from Shell Lake — shot a 249 and was 11 strokes ahead of secondplac­e finisher Ella Kozak of Yorkton.

Sarah Grieve of Saskatoon and Carey Mclean of Deer Valley were tied for third at 261 after 54 holes. Grieve was awarded third place after one-hole playoff. The Regina Red Sox are preparing to play three consecutiv­e Western Major Baseball League games against the Melville Millionair­es.

The teams are to meet Saturday (7 p.m.) and Sunday (2 p.m.) at Pirie Field and Monday (7 p.m.) at Currie Field.

Regina was to visit the Swift Current 57s on Thursday.

On Wednesday, the Red Sox lost both ends of a doublehead­er against the visiting Medicine Hat Mavericks, who won 6-0 and 3-2.

Led by seven strikeouts in six innings by winning pitcher Dwayne Redman Jr., the Standing Buffalo Dakotas edged Silver Screen Sportswear 4-3 in Western Cycle Rambler Park Fastball League action Wednesday.

Brad Flanagan homered for Silver Screen.

Also on Wednesday at Rambler Park, Tony Cappo got the win as Best Buds defeated the Piapot Wolfpack 6-1.

The Sleek swept a doublehead­er in the Regina Ladies Softball Associatio­n on Wednesday.

After defeating the Wheat Country Extreme 10-1, the Sleek downed the Kaos 16-2. Leslie Miller homered for the Sleek in the latter game.

Also on Wednesday at Douglas Par, the Thunder defeated the Diamondbac­ks 11-4 and the Rampage defeated Ochapowace 13-3.
