When Sleeping Birds Fly, by Sally Meadows.

-

What tiny creatures make their nest with their own bodies? Which animals greet each other by sticking their fingers up each other’s nose? What insect lays her eggs on her mate’s back, gluing them down so he doesn’t lose them?

Find out the answer to these questions and much more in my new book, When Sleeping Birds Fly: 365 Amazing Facts About The Animal Kingdom. While the book was ostensibly written for middle years students, I am finding adults who love trivia are snapping up the book as fast as the kids.

I am a self-confessed science nerd. Although my first two degrees are in the physical sciences — I also have a B.ED. — my passion for photography has drawn me into the world of animals and wildlife. As a former chil- dren’s entertainer (Sal the Science Gal, Nuts About Science!) and educator who spent years sharing my love of science with kids in innovative, creative ways, it was inevitable that I would publish a book that perfectly melds my former career with my current vocation as an author.

I have spent hundreds of hours poring through books, magazines, newspapers, and documentaries in order to find the most interesting, wacky, and/or amusing facts about the animal kingdom that I could. I have been collecting facts since 2012, so I am delighted to finally see this project come to fruition.

This book is the first in a series of three, plus an art book; so if you enjoy When Sleeping Birds Fly, keep your eyes peeled for the next volume, releasing in 2019.

When Sleeping Birds Fly was published by Siretona Creative (Calgary) and retails for $12.99. It launches Wednesday, July 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wild Birds Unlimited in Saskatoon. My website Events page shows other dates and locations, including Regina. The book can be purchased on my website, at Mcnally Robinson Booksellers, at Turning the Tide, and on amazon.
