A 42-year-old man from Lafleche has become the second person to face charges in connection with the disappearance and death of Claude Landry.

David Earl Prentice made his first appearance at Regina provincial court on Tuesday, accused of offering an indignity to Landry ’s body “by dragging and burying his body.”

He is not accused of killing the 48-year-old man.

Clad in a T-shirt bearing the brand-name logo “Lethal Threat,” Prentice called the charge “false” and questioned why the Crown was opposed to his release.

“I don’t believe I’m a risk to the community at all,” he told Judge James Rybchuk.

Nonetheless, Prentice will remain in custody until at least Wednesday, when he is scheduled to appear in court in Moose Jaw. He said he wants to speak with a lawyer in the meantime.

Gravelbourg resident Robert Arams, 74, who, in addition to the indignity allegation, faces a charge of first-degree murder, appeared in court in Moose Jaw on Tuesday and his case was set over until Aug. 7.

Arams was charged Saturday and made his first court appearance in Regina on Monday — the same day Prentice was arrested, according to the RCMP.

Landry’s common-law partner, Marie Moldovan, reported him missing on July 12. She said Landry left their Kincaid-area home with a couple she didn’t know, who said they knew the location of Moldovan and Landry’s missing dog.

Police deemed Landry’s subsequent disappearance suspicious.

Moldovan described her spouse as a man who had struggled in his life, but went out of his way to help others.

Police have not yet released information on when — or even if — Landry’s body has been located. RCMP say the investigation is ongoing.
