Hallberg wins Saskatchew­an senior men’s golf title at Kenosee Lake

Weyburn’s Rick Hallberg is the 2018 Saskatchew­an senior men’s golf champion.

Hallberg fired a 77 on Thursday for a three-day score of 227 (7476-77) to finish with a three-shot victory over two-day leader Ken Rodgers of Regina (73-76-81—230) and Saskatoon’s Tony Turay (7776-77—230) at Kenosee Lake.

Carlyle’s Jason Mohr won the Saskatchew­an mid-masters crown with a one-shot victory over Hallberg. Mohr had a three-day score of 226 (76-77-73).

Rodgers and Turay finished tied for third in the mid-masters (40plus) category.

BASEBALL

The Regina Red Sox were to complete their Western Major Baseball League regular-season schedule Sunday against the visiting Weyburn Beavers.

Regina, which will finish third in the six-team Eastern Division, carried a 25-21 record into the finale after defeating the host Melville Millionair­es 13-3 on Saturday.

RUGBY

Regina Rugby Union 15s teams played interlocki­ng matches with Saskatoon sides Saturday at Regina Rugby Park. The results were as follows:

Men: Regina Highlander­s 20, Saskatoon Gophers 0; Saskatoon Krems 45, Regina Condors 17; Regina Rogues 43, Saskatoon Badgers 27; Saskatoon Wild Oats 106, Campion Grads 0

Women: Regina Condors 50, Saskatoon Kirin 21; Regina Rage 118 Saskatoon Wild Oats 0.

SWIMMING

Mitchell Brough of the Regina Optimist Dolphins twice broke a provincial long-course Thursday at the Canadian junior (18-andunder) swimming championsh­ips in Winnipeg.

Competing in the 15-17 men’s division, Brough posted a record time of 52.85 seconds in a preliminar­y and then clocked a 52.21 in the final, finishing sixth.

FASTBALL

Josh Jordan and Michael Jordan homered for the Bulyea Rustlers on Thursday as they defeated Best Buds 11-3 in Western Cycle Rambler Park Fastball League action. Ron Peigan homered for Best Buds.

Also on Thursday, it was: Rampage 9, Piapot Padres 1; Alpha Constructi­on Hawks 4, Pasqua A’s 2; and, A’s 7, Hawks 5.

SOFTBALL

Aimee Unchulenko got the win as the Rampage defeated the Lumsden Under-19s 7-1 in Regina Ladies Softball Associatio­n playoff action Thursday.

Also on Thursday, it was: Vipers 6, Diamondbac­ks 3; Iskotew 9, Elite Auto Body 2; and, Fusion 8, Bomb Squad 4.
