Phil Langlois had a natural affinity for the Queen City long before he even joined the Regina Red Sox.

Langlois, of Victoriaville, Que., met his girlfriend (Madison Jerome) when they were attending Muscatine Community College in Muscatine, Iowa.

“She was playing softball and I was playing baseball,” Langlois recalled. “Then she moved back to Regina to go to school here and I went to Niagara (University in Lewiston, N.Y.). Then I heard about the Red Sox and that (the Western Major Baseball League) was a good summer league, so I came here.”

Langlois is finishing his second season with the Red Sox and, for that matter, his career in competitive baseball.

“This is my last season, so it’s more about pride,” Langlois, the Red Sox third baseman, said at Currie Field during the WMBL’S championship series against the Medicine Hat Mavericks.

“I’m just happy to be playing baseball for one more season. My girlfriend’s family can watch me play and, in front of all those fans, it’s the best place to play.

“I really feel at home.”

Langlois crossed home plate three times — once after hitting a home run — on Tuesday as the Red Sox defeated the visiting Medicine Hat Mavericks 12-1.

He went 3-for-4 with two RBIS and a walk to help Regina reduce Medicine Hat’s series lead to 2-1 in the best-of-five WMBL final, which was to resume Wednesday at Currie Field.
