Lotto 6-49 millionaire took months to check ticket

-

A Swift Current woman was a millionaire for nearly four months before she knew it.

Kendra Bates-chomyn, who won $1-million on the May 16 Lotto 6-49 draw, said she tries to buy a $24 super pack once or twice a month and sometimes has a few tickets to check all at once.

“I heard there was an outstanding million-dollar prize in Saskatchewan, but I didn’t think that my ticket would be the winner, so I didn’t rush to check it,” BatesChomyn said in a Saskatchewan Lotteries press release.

She couldn’t believe it when the number came on the screen the first time, so she scanned the ticket again. Seeing the same result, she took it to a different store to scan it a third time.

“It felt so surreal,” Bates-chomyn

said, adding she’s still surprised by the win and plans to take her time deciding what to do with her winnings.

“I feel like we have to be responsible and make sure we’re set up for the long term,” she said. “We’ll still do some dreaming, but right now we’re more concerned with making the right decisions and planning for our family’s future.”

But Bates-chomyn said she still plans to enjoy the cash with a possible trip to Europe and a replacement motorcycle for her partner.
