Luther Lions play a pair of marathon matches

It was a busy Tuesday for the Luther Lions senior girls tier 1 volleyball team.

Luther played a pair of threegame matches in Regina High Schools Athletic Associatio­n action, defeating the Leboldus Golden Suns (23-25, 25-13, 15-9) and also facing the Winston Knoll Wolverines, who won 25-21, 15-25, 15-10.

In senior girls tier 2 action, the Johnson Wildcats defeated the Laval Lion (25-20, 25-17) and Thom Trojans (25-19, 25-17).

University of Saskatchew­an Huskies defensive back Payton Hall, formerly of the Campbell Tartans, is the defensive player of the week in U Sports football.

He had a 90-yard intercepti­on-return TD and seven defensive tackles to help the Huskies defeat the University of Manitoba Bisons 48-46 on Friday.

The Best Buds are the Division 2 champions in the Western Cycle Rambler Park Fastball League.

They doubled the Earl Grey Rockets 4-2 on Monday in the third and deciding game of the division final.

Best Buds got a two-run homer from Brian Poitras and a solo shot from Jonah Agecoutay. Earl Grey got a two-run homer from Evan Mohr.

Winning pitcher Tony Cappo struck out 13 in seven innings. Earl Grey ’s Justin Sievert also went the distance, fanning 11.

The Regina Condors defeated the Regina Highlander­s 36-33 in a Saskatchew­an Rugby Union men’s Division 2 semifinal Saturday at Regina Rugby Park.

In Division 1 men’s semifinals, the Saskatoon Wild Oats defeated the host Regina Highlander­s 36-24 and the Saskatoon Badgers doubled the visiting Regina Rogues 24-12.

In women’s regular-season action Saturday, the Regina Condors defeated the Saskatoon Wild Oats 55-20 and the Regina Rage defeated the Saskatoon Kirin 40-10.

Bruce Foster recorded a hole-inone Wednesday at the Tor Hill Golf Course.

He aced the par-3, 150-yard eighth hole on the north course, using a 4-iron. The feat was witnessed by Tony Kuffner and Doug Exner.
