Police say masked cyclist faces a concealed weapon charge

-

A cyclist wearing a Guy Fawkes mask and carrying multiple knives accidentally cut himself while he was being arrested by police.

According to a Regina Police Service (RPS) news release, officers responded to the 1800 block of Scarth Street on Wednesday at 12:28 a.m. for a report of a masked man riding a bicycle who was carrying a large knife.

Officers found the suspect at the intersection of 11th Avenue and Hamilton Street, and confirmed he was carrying a large knife and wearing a Guy Fawkes mask. The same type of mask is worn by the character V in the 2005 film V for Vendetta.

The character also carries knives and daggers in the film.

Police arrested the man, and while searching him found two more knives.

One of the concealed knives cut the man when police were arresting him, and he was taken to hospital by EMS.

A 33-year-old Regina man has now been charged with carrying a concealed weapon.

He was released on an appearance notice, and is scheduled to appear in provincial court on Oct. 29.

Hours earlier, police responded to a robbery at a business involving a suspect wearing a red Halloween mask and a black trench coat.

Police said the man fled the scene on a bike.

The incident happened on the 2200 east block of Victoria Avenue at approximately 10:40 p.m.

The man is described as six feet tall, medium build and had a silver bag on his back.
