Teen accused of having firearms strapped to body faces charges

-

A 19-year-old man faces 18 charges after he was allegedly found with two firearms — one of them a loaded shotgun — strapped to his torso after an incident on Monday evening.

Police were responding to reports of a man walking in the area of 8th Avenue and Mctavish Street, who’d allegedly pointed a firearm at a passing vehicle around 6:40 p.m.

After locating three men walking nearby, one of which matched the description of the suspect, officers “challenged” the three, who initially complied with police orders to remain still and on the ground, according to a police news release.

When one of the men became agitated and kept trying to stand, an officer regained control and found two firearms, one of them a loaded shotgun, strapped to his torso and a third firearm in his backpack, police said.

The man was also allegedly found in possession of a knife.

One of the other men was allegedly found in possession of bear mace and the third individual was released at the scene.

The 19-year-old was charged with 19 various firearms charges including three counts of concealing a weapon, three counts of careless use of a firearm, possession of a weapon for a purpose dangerous to public peace, possession of a loaded firearm and more.

A 25-year-old man was also charged with carrying a concealed weapon and breach of probation.
