Second former Potashcorp senior executive to depart Nutrien management team
SASKATOON Nutrien Ltd. is set to lose another former Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan executive.
One week after Potashcorp’s final CEO Jochen Tilk announced his plan to leave the newly formed company, Nutrien chief financial officer Wayne Brownlee — also a Potashcorp alumnus — is following him out the door.
In a news release Monday, Nutrien said Brownlee will retire effective Oct. 31 after an “exceptional” 40-year career in the Canadian mining sector. His replacement has not been named, the company said.
A University of Saskatchewan graduate, Brownlee joined Potashcorp when it was still a Crown corporation. In 1989, he co-ordinated its privatization and was subsequently tasked with expansion and development efforts.
In 2006, Brownlee was appointed the company’s chief financial officer, a position he kept after Potashcorp’s merger with Calgarybased Agrium Inc. on Jan. 1 led to the formation of Nutrien.
Following Brownlee’s departure, three former Potashcorp executives remain among Nutrien’s senior leadership: chief legal officer Joseph Podwika, chief information officer Brent Poohkay, and president of nitrogen and phosphate Raef Sully.
Brownlee is also co-chair of Wanuskewin Heritage Park’s Thundering Ahead fundraising campaign.
