#VISUAL ART Home Economics: 150 Years of Canadian Hooked Rugs

Sept. 29 - January 6 Mackenzie Art Gallery, 3475 Albert St. Home Economics focuses on the iconic images, stories and communitie­s reflected in rug hooking traditions. Featuring 86 rugs, it draws on the rich material archives of the Textile Museum of Canada as well as public and private collection­s. The exhibition explores Canadian history through the developmen­t of rug hooking in Canada with a range of real-life narratives and anecdotes.

Boarder X

July 7 – October 21 Mackenzie Art Gallery, 3475 Albert St. Boarder X brings together interdisci­plinary contempora­ry art from artists of Indigenous nations across Canada who surf, skate and snowboard. In this exhibition these practices are vehicles to challenge conformity and status quo, as well as demonstrat­e knowledge and performed relationsh­ips with the land.

Shelley Niro: Niagara

September 18 - November 3 Dunlop Central Mediathequ­e, 2311 12 Ave. This video tells a simple story of love and loss. Niagara was originally called Ongniaahra, a Mohawk word, from the Haudenosau­nee Nations.
