SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 4, 2018 Cosmic Symbolism

The lookout tower isn’t placed on the ground floor, because it’s impossible to get an overview of the situation from there. However, the watchman who never comes down from the tower doesn’t know what happens at that level. Two lunar oppositions of the day invite us to explore our environments from as many perspectives as possible.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). Most people say more than they need to. The classy way is to think about what you need to say, and then say a little bit less than that. You’ll be pleased by the effectiveness of today’s exchanges.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). You’re more self-sufficient than most. Even so, it would be ludicrous to claim that people’s attitudes toward you don’t matter. It all matters. You thrive with certain kinds of attention, and you suffer with other kinds.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). Everyone who lives has injuries of one sort or another. And everyone who lives has access to the great healer of those injuries -- time. Wanting the healing process to be faster won’t make it so. Patience looks good on you.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). You don’t have to wait for a special occasion to tell someone how much they mean to you. Those moments have too many built-in expectations, making it hard to hit the right note. It’s much easier to give when no one is expecting.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). With so many options, your main challenge will be to understand your own needs better and then focus on what’s going to make a difference to you. Do this, and you’ll be unstoppable.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). There’s good stress and there’s bad stress. No matter how pressured you may be today, consider resting for five minutes of every waking hour to stave off the bad kind of stress.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). It is very difficult to discover your own blind spots. Trust that they’re there. When someone points out where you’ve made a mistake, this is a gift. You’ll be grateful for the enlightenment.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). When you said you’d love someone forever, you weren’t lying. The love will take on many different forms though, because love is immaterial. Love is a flow.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). Part of what makes you such a wonderful conversationalist is that you’re curious about how other people live. Today, it also might lead you to learn more than you wanted to know.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). Setbacks are normal, just don’t give them too much attention. Have faith in the inherent qualities and powers of good. Truth over time equals change for the better.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). It doesn’t matter that actions speak louder than words if the two are saying the same thing. In your case, they will be, and the effect is a sort of stereophonic brilliance.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). A life without risk is a life without happiness. Though happiness isn’t always a risky proposition, sooner or later an element of danger will stand between you and your wishes.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (Nov. 3). You’ll run your life like a smart business owner runs a company, spending the most time serving top customers. It’s an approach that pays rich dividends on levels including personal, professional, financial and spiritual. Also notable will be an increased sense of control over your moods and the lift you give others. Virgo and Cancer adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 20, 3, 33, 37 and 41

ASTROLOGICAL QUESTION: “The muses must hate me. I’ve been trying to write a novel for three years. The story keeps changing and it seems like I’ll never finish it. How can an Aquarius author wannabe get inspired to finish a book?”

I just talked to the muses and they assured me they do not hate you. That said, they would like to be courted.

One thing to remember about the muses, who are the Greek goddesses of inspiration, is that they are sisters. Courting more than one at a time can lead to jealousy and complication. Hone in on one. If your novel is a comedy, go for Thalia. If it’s a drama, go for Melpomene. (And as long as you’re honing in on your muse, you may as well hone in on the genre of your novel. Inventive Aquarians sometimes forget to follow the formula of the genre they are trying to tackle. Sticking to the rules of your genre will help you focus the work.)

Consistency will be key as you court your muse. Make a writing schedule and keep it. Never stand up your muse. Don’t make demands of her. Give her lots of gifts in the form of reading. She loves when you read and will reward you with inspiration!

CELEBRITY PROFILES: Model and Kardashian sister Kendall Jenner is a charismatic Scorpio born under a nurturing Cancer moon. The abundance of water sign energy flowing through her chart suggests honed intuitive powers. Venus and Mars in Libra, the sign of partnership and aesthetics, indicates that Jenner has the romantic heart of someone who loves being in love and has a designer’s eye for beauty.

SUNDAY, MAY 6, 2018 Headed for Cosmic Squares

The symbol for a thing might as well be the thing. What happens to the symbol will be accurately reflected by real life under a Libra moon keen on balancing the figurative and actual worlds. Do keep in mind that symbolism is a mental creation. The significance doesn’t exist without the connections and meanings we assign, so assign them well.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). Argue for your limitations and sure enough they are yours. But today, you’ll do the opposite. Believing it’s going to be easy for you, you’ll magically make it so.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). Relax. Life is an easy flow, and all you have to do is go with it. As for your guilty pleasures, consider categorically rejecting the definition. Is there really a good reason to feel guilty about what pleases you?

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). You don’t have to go out of your way to do something original; just do what comes naturally. You cannot help but make a unique imprint on the world. Being different isn’t bad or good; it’s just different.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). Anyone who is controlling, interrogating or dominating could present an infringement of your emotional space. Widen your boundaries to put more distance between you and intruding energies.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). The challenge of the week is to turn your idea into an event that’s on everyone’s calendar. The magic will happen in the planning stage, which may take more time than the actual event.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). The energy of pushing and pursuing just doesn’t suit you today. Hang back and play it cool -- because the moment a dance becomes a chase, it ceases to be fun for both parties.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). Promptness is the unsung virtue of the day, as no one gives awards for being on time. But those who are late cause the next person to be late -- and on and on. So one prompt move can save a lot of people from having to wait around.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). You may find yourself attracted to complexity in all things, but especially when it comes to people. You get a spark of excitement from the prospect of figuring out the puzzle.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). The twists and turns of this day will make good storytelling fodder later. You’ve the good fortune to have people in your life who thrill to hear your stories and eagerly anticipate your next one.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). There is such beauty in simplicity that you cannot imagine why a person might make life more complicated than it needs to be. Get rid of what you won’t use, and avoid acquiring what you don’t need.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). It takes two to have a relationship; therefore, neither party can entirely control how things work out. But by following through on harmonious intentions, much good will be accomplished.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). All that happens in your social life will be to your benefit. Even circumstances that seem unfavorable will prove over time to be beneficial in ways you wouldn’t have guessed.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (Nov. 4). You see real progress in your personal life when it comes to figuring out how to take care of yourself and living in a way that makes you stronger by the day. As you focus on the good, your bad habits become less pervasive, fading away all on their own. Also notable: You’ll make marvelous money with a new venture. Gemini and Sagittarius adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 3, 6, 20, 17 and 44. ttt

FORECAST FOR THE WEEK AHEAD: The Scorpio new moon in the middle of the week will serve as the marker between “before” and “after.” This is the moon of metamorphosis. Note that you don’t have to be displeased with yourself or reject who you are to upgrade to the next version. It’s more a function of natural progression, a process that you might as well surrender to, as it will come either way. Picture yourself as the person you’d like to be. The universe is like a hairdresser ready to give you a new look. You’re like the smart client who brings a picture of the desired cut and style to guide the process toward a pleasing end.

Jupiter moves into an extremely lucky position Thursday, providing one more reason to steer away from negative feelings, such as anger, resentment, longing and fear. Such emotions send a message to your body that you are in danger -- that there is some kind of threat gunning for you -- and there goes your relaxed chemistry. The relaxed chemistry is better, of course -- vital, attractive, healthy -- so what do you do to get it back? Face your fear. No fear equals no stress. Fortune favors the brave.

CELEBRITY PROFILES: Matthew Mcconaughey stars in “White Boy Rick,” a crime drama based on the true story of a teenage FBI informant. True to his Scorpio sun sign, Mcconaughey is a master of transformation, whether losing weight to play a dying man in “Dallas Buyers Club” or losing layers of darkness to light up a romantic comedy. Mcconaughey was born when the moon and Pluto were in disciplined Virgo.
