Three-game Friday at U of R’s main gym
The University of Regina Cougars are preparing for a hectic day on Friday.
The Cougars are to oppose the University of Manitoba Bisons in Canada West basketball at noon (women) and 2 p.m. (men) at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health and Sport.
At 7 p.m., the Cougars women’s volleyball team will meet the UBC Thunderbirds, also at the CKHS.
Meanwhile, the U of R men’s hockey team will play the University of Calgary Dinos (7 p.m., Cooperators Centre).
Another busy day looms Saturday, beginning with the CougarsDinos men’s hockey game (3 p.m., Co-operators Centre).
A basketball doubleheader is set for the CKHS, with the Cougars and Bisons meeting Saturday at 4 p.m. (women) and 6 p.m. (men).
Cole Sillinger had two goals and one assist for the Regina Pat Canadians as they blanked the Notre Dame Hounds 6-0 on Wednesday in Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League action at the Cooperators Centre.
Sillinger has 11 goals and 18 assists in 15 games. With 29 points, he is second in the league’s scoring race to Nolan Doell of the Beardy ’s Blackhawks (who has 31 points in 17 games).
Kyle Forster, Braden Birnie, Jack Glen and Adam Kydd also scored for Regina (10-2-1-2), which got three assists from Cal Caragata while extending its winning streak to six games.
Jared Thompson made 10 saves for his second shutout of the season. The Regina Rebels improved their record to 7-1-1-0 on Wednesday by defeating Notre Dame 6-2 in Saskatchewan Female Midget AAA Hockey League action.
Brooklyn Stevely, Shaelyn Myers, Larissa Bohlken, Neena Brick, Jordan Fry and Hanna Bailey scored for the Rebels.
Lyndsey Janes and Ally Kosteniuk replied for Notre Dame at Duncan Mcneill Arena in Wilcox. Taylor Kreutzer had two goals and one assist to lead the Extreme Hockey Regina Capitals to a 5-4 Prairie Junior Hockey League victory over the Traveland RV Storm on Wednesday at the Pilot Butte Recreation Centre.
Daniel Wasylyshyn, Dylan Jones and Jordan Repsch also scored for the Capitals.
The Storm’s Jarvis Gelowitz scored twice and assisted on two goals by Taylor Schmidt.
The Capitals (11-3-0-0) and Storm (11-4-0-0) are tied atop the Bill Johnston Division with 22 points.
The Balgonie Greenall Griffins are to compete on two fronts at the Saskatchewan High Schools Athletic Association volleyball championships, Friday and Saturday.
Balgonie is in the 5A boys and 5A girls tournaments, which are in Prince Albert and Saskatoon, respectively.
The 5A boys draw will also include the Riffel Royals and Leboldus Golden Suns. The Winston Knoll Wolverines and Campbell Tartans are at the 5A girls provincials.
The Lumsden Angels are at the 4A girls provincials in Clavet.
