BACH, BRATWURST & BEER A TASTY BLEND
After all that musical power, you might need a pint
Bach, Bratwurst & Beer is a first for Regina’s Cecilian Chamber Series.
It’s the first time the classical concert organization has done an event with food.
It’s also an opportunity for people to get acquainted with Johann Sebastian Bach and his epic cello suites.
“The Bach cello suites was something that was on my wish list of great musical things to want to present,” said Lore Ruschiensky, the Cecilian Chamber Series’ artistic and executive director.
“And because it is a long concert, in order to do them all in one concert format, you kind of need to keep your audience refreshed.”
Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra principal cellist Arnold Choi will perform the six cello suites, which is a feat, said Ruschiensky.
“It’s like being able to run a block — most of us can do that or could at some point,” she said.
“But to run a marathon or an ultra-marathon is a completely different thing.”
The concert comprises about 2½ hours’ worth of music.
During the intermission, the audience will receive a “simple meal,” said Ruschiensky, which is meant to replenish after hearing the “musical power” of the suites played in succession.
If you don’t like beer or have dietary restrictions, consider eating before you go.
Ruschiensky wasn’t sure about the substitutions available. Munch is catering.
