Police looking for driver of truck found in creek

-

While police search for answers about a missing Swift Current man and a wrecked truck, Colton Koop’s family is hoping he’s OK.

Police believe Koop, 26, may have been in possession of a truck when it left the road and ended up in a creek early last Friday morning.

In a statement, the Koop family says they are still “actively searching” for Koop to confirm his wellbeing.

A red 2014 Dodge truck was found partially submerged in a Swift Current creek early Friday morning, with the driver seemingly nowhere to be found. Police believe the truck was southbound on Sixth Avenue NE when it left the roadway, crashed through the east guard rail and ended up in the icy creek. RCMP have spoken to the registered owner, confirming that person was not driving the vehicle at the time of the incident.

The truck was removed from the creek Saturday with the assistance of the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team and the water was searched without anyone being located.

“We’re just taking it day by day, waiting,” said a family spokesperson who asked not to be identified. “There are so many different rumours going around, everybody jumps to conclusions.”

The spokesperson said the family has no idea what happened that morning.

Anyone with information about Koop’s whereabouts or the collision is asked to contact the Swift Current Municipal RCMP at 306778-4870 or the local police service.
