Tigers come back to storm road-weary Pats

The Medicine Hat Tigers scored two unanswered goals in the third period Saturday night en route to a 4-2 win over the Regina Pats before 2,844 fans at Canalta Centre.

It was the eighth straight defeat for the Pats (8-22-0-1), who went 0-2-0-1 on a three-game Alberta road trip. The loss came 24 hours after Regina blew a 3-1 third-period lead against the Red Deer Rebels, who prevailed 4-3 in a shootout.

After a scoreless first period on Saturday, Jadon Joseph put Regina on the board 1:33 into the second. James Hamblin replied while short-handed with 49 seconds left in the frame and Ryan Jevne gave Medicine Hat the lead 1:50 into the third.

Regina’s Sergei Alkhimov tied it but Logan Christense­n scored the eventual game winner with 6:22 left in the third. Jevne added his second of the night just 1:16 later to round out the scoring.

Goalie Dean Mcnabb was named the second star for the Pats, who were outshot 46-25. Mads Sogaard made 23 saves for the Tigers (1514-1-2), including a penalty shot by Riley Krane in the second period.

Regina is slated to play its fourth straight road game on Wednesday against the Swift Current Broncos before returning home Friday to face the Moose Jaw Warriors. The Pats’ last game before the Christmas break is Saturday in Moose Jaw.

The Regina Pat Canadians got two goals and one assist from Carter Belitski on Saturday in a 4-1 victory over the Prince Albert Mintos at the Co-operators Centre.

Cole Sillinger and Blake Swetlikoff also scored for the Pat Canadians (15-4-2-2). Gabe Klassen replied for Prince Albert (11-12-01), which was outshot 26-9 in the Saskatchew­an Midget AAA Hockey League game.

Two goals by Tyler Funk were the difference Saturday as the Saskatoon Royals defeated the Traveland RV Storm 4-3 in overtime in Prairie Junior Hockey League action at the Pilot Butte Recreation Centre.

Funk scored with 6:33 remaining in the third period to force overtime. He subsequent­ly scored the OT winner. Taylor Schmidt led the Storm with two goals.

Also on Saturday, the Prince Albert Titans defeated the Regina Silver Foxes 5-2 at the Al Ritchie
