Teen, adult face attempted murder charges in shooting

A man and a teenage boy have been charged with attempted murder in connection with a shooting that happened in the Heritage area on Aug. 13.

Police received a report of a weapons offence in the 1800 block of Halifax Street at 6:13 p.m. that day. Police found a man inside a house who had been injured by a gunshot. He was transporte­d to hospital with non-life-threatenin­g injuries. Police allege the shooting happened during a break and enter.

According to a Regina Police Service news release issued Monday, a 29-year-old man and a 16-yearold male have both been charged with break and enter to commit an indictable offence (attempted murder) in connection with the shooting.

The man is also facing several firearm and weapon charges, including possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthoriz­ed, possession of a firearm, prohibited or restricted weapon obtained by crime, carrying a concealed weapon and four counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibitio­n order.

The man was arrested on Aug. 15 when police spotted a vehicle that was wanted in connection with the shooting. The vehicle was spotted in the area of Dewdney Avenue and Lewvan Drive. Police stopped the vehicle and arrested the man. Officers also searched the vehicle and found a gun.

The next night, police arrested a 16-year-old male youth at a residence in the 2000 block of Osler Street. Police said he was arrested without incident. In addition to the attempted murder charge, the youth was also charged with breach of undertakin­g. He made his first court appearance in youth court on Monday. The man appeared in Regina provincial court on Monday morning.
