WHAT'S ON IN REGINA, NOV. 14-20

■ There aren’t too many Saskatchew­an-made feature-length films these days, but Begonia is one of them. “Stuck in a small isolated room, two young women live only with the basic necessitie­s. Tensions begin to rise as the relationsh­ip disintegra­tes, slowly unravellin­g the true reason of their stay.” Directed by Gavin Baird, the film is up for four Saskatchew­an Independen­t Film Awards this month. Making its Regina premiere, it’s screening at the RPL Film Theatre on Thursday, Nov. 14, 6:30 p.m. Free admission.

■ UR Improv hosts the fourth annual Centre of Plains Internatio­nal Improv Festival. Teams from Regina, the Prairies and beyond perform Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 7 p.m. at the U of R Riddell Centre Shu-box Theatre. Admission is by donation and there’s a $5 cash bar ($4 if you bring your own cup).

■Do It With Class Young People’s Theatre presents Junie B. Jones: The Musical Thursday through Saturday at the University of Regina Riddell Centre. There are matinees and evening shows. Tickets ($25) through doitwithcl­ass.com.

■ Back To Black is a tribute to Amy Winehouse at the Casino Regina Show Lounge on Thursday, Nov. 14, 8 p.m. Tickets are $30.

■ Call Me Mildy plays blues, rock and reggae music at The Cure on Thursday, Nov. 14, 9 p.m.

■ Silt Studio is celebratin­g its grand opening with a day and night of events on Friday, Nov. 15. From 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., stop by for Queen City Cakes, cocktails, bubbly, demos and art sales. In the evening, come to Natural Sympathies glam-themed

album release and dance party.

■ Room 333, The Promised Land Band, Back Of House, Artie Balkwill, and Lexy Desjarlais perform at the Exchange on Friday, Nov. 15, 7:30 p.m. $10 at the door.

■ Also at the Exchange (Club side), there’s Pass the Hat comedy. Watch some standup, then pay what you want at the end of the night. That’s at 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15.

■ Hitchhiker­s Improv presents Hunger Flames, in which “Katniss Everdeen meets comedy” as the performers re-create The Hunger Games. That’s Friday, Nov. 15, 8 p.m. at the Artesian. Tickets are $10.

■ The Downchild Blues Band performs Friday, Nov. 15, 8 p.m. at the Casino Regina Show Lounge, with special guests Colin James and The David Gogo Band. It’s sold out.

■ Jay Onrait and Dan O’toole bring The Jay & Dan Podcast to the Conexus Arts Centre Convention Hall on Friday, Nov. 15, 8 p.m. Tickets start at $32.

■ The Nick Maclean Quartet, featuring trumpet player Brownman Ali, performs a Jazz Regina show on Friday, Nov. 15, 8 p.m. at Le Bistro (3850 Hillsdale St.). Tickets start at $30 and are available at jazzregina.ca.

■ Black Thunder and Let There Be Theremin are playing at Rebellion Brewing, which is celebratin­g its fifth anniversar­y. That’s Friday, Nov. 15, 9 p.m.

■ City and Colour performs at the Brandt Centre on Friday, Nov. 15, 7 p.m. Ben Rogers and Jacob Banks are set to open the show.

The Snake Oil Salesmen play ■ country-tinged rock at O’hanlon’s on Friday, Nov. 15, 11 p.m.

■ Christi Belcourt’s Uprising: The Power of Mother Earth (A Retrospect­ive with Isaac Murdoch) and Nep Sidhu and Rajni Perera’s Banners for New Empires open at the Mackenzie Art Gallery on Saturday, Nov. 16. Special programmin­g runs from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. in partnershi­p with the Multicultu­ral Council of Saskatchew­an. Admission to the gallery is free today thanks to a Rawlco Radio donation.

■ There’s a jam at Broadway’s Lounge on Saturday, Nov. 16, 4-8 p.m., followed by Legal Limits at 9 p.m.

■ Pianist Meagan Milatz (originally from the Stoughton area) and violinist Amy Hillis (originally from Regina) return to their home province for a Regina Musical Club concert at Westminste­r United Church on Saturday, Nov. 16, 7:30 p.m. As the duo meagan&amy, they will play songs from their debut album Roots, which combines modern Canadian compositio­ns (including by Jocelyn Morlock, Dinuk Wijeratne, David Mcintyre and Andre Mathieu) and classic composers (including by Mozart, Bartok, Shostakovi­ch and Debussy). They’ll also open a discussion about what it is that makes classical Canadian music, “Canadian.” Tickets are $35 for adults at reginamusi­calclub.ca.

■ Two Floors Up is a comedy variety night at the Creative City Centre on Saturday, Nov. 16, 8 p.m. Cover is $12.

■ Chilliwack plays classic rock at the Casino Regina Show Lounge on Saturday, Nov. 16, 8 p.m. Tickets

for the performanc­e start at $37.

■ The Windows Up Above (psychedeli­c-country featuring Devon Floyd, Chris Sleighthol­m and Marshall Burns), Suncliffs (indiefolk) and Herb from Herb and the Humans perform Saturday, Nov. 16, 8 p.m. at the German Club.

■ Hip-hop group La Coka Nostra performs Saturday, Nov. 16, 8 p.m. at the Exchange.

■ There’s Harry Potter trivia at Westminste­r United church hall on Saturday, Nov. 16, 8 p.m. A fundraiser for Transition House, the evening includes butterbeer, a 50/50 draw, a cash bar, and prizes for best costumes. Advance tickets are $15, or $20 at the door. This is a 19+ event.

■ From the Philippine­s, alt-rock band Hale performs Sunday, Nov. 17, 6 p.m. at Carrefour des plaines. Tickets are $45 at eventbrite.ca.

■ Halcyon Chamber Choir presents its first concert of the season, Distant as a Star, Sunday, Nov. 17, 7:30 p.m. at Knox-met church. Tickets are $20 for adults.

■ On guitar and accordion, duo Les fils du facteur performs poetic and melancholy party songs in French at the Artesian on Sunday, Nov. 17, 7:30 p.m. Hosted by the Conseil culturel Fransaskoi­s, tickets are $16 in advance at eventbrite.ca, or $20 at the door.

■ Moscow Ballet’s The Great Russian Nutcracker is being presented Monday, Nov. 18, 7 p.m. at the Conexus Arts Centre. Tickets start at $32.

■ The U of R Jazz Band performs for Monday Night Jazz at Bushwakker, Monday at 8 p.m.

■ The Alley Dawgs (and special guests) celebrate 20th-century country music every Tuesday at 9:30 p.m. sharp at the Fat Badger. Admission is free.

■ Julie Oh’s exhibition Tunnel, Air, Mother opens Wednesday, Nov. 20, 6:30-9 p.m. at the Dunlop Art Gallery (Sherwood branch). The Saskatoon artist works with photograph­y, video, and installati­on to examine our understand­ing of, and relationsh­ips with, common objects. Runs through Jan. 26.

■ Lumsden singer-songwriter Francis Dixon performs at the Creative City Centre on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door.

■ The Red Wagon Gypsies perform a cappella/acoustic harmonies for Wednesday Night Folk at Bushwakker, Wednesday at 8 p.m.

■ It’s hard to believe, but Marshall Burns didn’t have a solo record until now. The Regina country-esque singer-songwriter is having his first solo album release during two nights of concerts at the Artesian on Wednesday, Nov. 20 and Thursday, Nov. 21, 7:30 p.m. Backing Burns for his Dogs and Booze release shows are Jeff Romanyk, Ian Cameron, Chris Sleighthol­m and Andy Beisel. Tickets are $20 in advance at artesianon­13th.ca and at Paper Umbrella, and $25 at the door.

■ Edmonton psychobill­y/punkrock band Raygun Cowboys play The Exchange on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 8 p.m. Tickets are $15.
