FIVE THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT QUILTY, THE CAT HOUDINI

-

Quilty, a disobedient shelter cat, has become famous for sowing chaos at the Houston animal shelter where he broke all the cats out of their shared room several times a day. Here’s his tale:

1 HANDLERS EXASPERATED

Capable of opening heavy doors, he exasperated his handlers with his crafty ways. “Quilty will not be contained,” Friends for Life Animal Rescue and Adoption Organization wrote on Facebook last month.

2 ‘HAD A BLAST DURING THE NIGHT’

Not long after he was surrendered to the shelter, he started leading after-hours insurrections. “We would come in the morning and have to collect all 15 of the cats who had had a blast during the night,” Jennifer Hopkins, the spokeswoman for Friends for Life, told CNN.

3 BANISHED TO THE LOBBY

Tired of being greeted with feline anarchy, staffers temporarily banished the cat to the lobby while they “Quilty-proofed” the cats’ room. But he wasn’t done causing a ruckus. “He is being a spicy a-hole now because he is, once again, contained….” But he Houdini’d his way out again several days later. “He has been returned to solitary,” Friends for Life reported.

4 #FREEQUILTY MOVEMENT

Meanwhile, the #Freequilty movement was taking off. The more crimes the cat committed, the more his fan base grew. Staffers put his face on shirts and stickers and began selling black #Freequilty wristbands.

5 FOREVER HOME FOUND

Despite his criminal ways and propensity for leading feline uprisings, people began clamouring to adopt Quilty. He has found what the shelter hopes will be a permanent home.
