Regina Pat Canadians repeat as first-place finishers

The Regina Pat Canadians are the Saskatchew­an Midget AAA Hockey League’s regular-season champions for the second consecutiv­e year.

Regina, which posted a 328-4-0 record, will now face the eighth-seeded Swift Current Legionnair­es (21-19-1-3) in a bestof-five quarter-final. Dates had yet to be announced as of Monday afternoon.

The other first-round playoff series are as follows: Saskatoon Blazers (second) versus Tisdale Trojans (seventh); Saskatoon Contacts (third) versus Prince Albert Mintos (sixth); and Moose Jaw Warriors (fourth) versus Notre Dame Hounds (fifth).

The Pat Canadians concluded their regular season Sunday with a 4-1 loss to Notre Dame at Duncan Mcneill Arena in Wilcox.

Connor Keough (two goals) and Dominick Campoine (one goal, two assists) were the Hounds’ offensive leaders. Josselin Dufey also scored for Notre Dame. Carson Whyte replied for Regina.

The Regina Rebels registered back-to-back shutouts on the weekend.

On Saturday, Payton Schlamp notched the goose-egg as the Rebels posted a 4-0 Saskatchew­an Female Midget AAA Hockey League victory over the Saskatoon Stars at the Co-operators Centre.

On Sunday, Chantel Weller stopped all 23 shots she faced in the Rebels’ 5-0 victory over the visiting Swift Current Diamond Energy Wildcats.

Alexis Petford had a goal and three assists for the Rebels on Sunday, when Neena Brick added two goals and one assist. Lauren Focht and Shaelyn Myers also scored for Regina.

The Rebels boast a league-best 23-1-1-1 record entering their regular-season finale Tuesday against the host Weyburn Richardson Pioneer Gold Wings.

Brick has a league-high 52 points, including 26 goals. Weller sports a 1.19 goals-against average and a .937 save percentage.

Regina has registered nine shutouts this season, five by Weller and four by Schlamp.
