Second man wanted in city’s fifth homicide this year
Having already charged one man accused in Regina’s latest homicide, police are now seeking a second suspect — the father of the first person arrested.
Police issued a news release Tuesday for wanted man Michael Dennis Morrissette, 42. He is described as five-foot-10, about 155 pounds, medium build, medium complexion, with short brown hair and hazel eyes.
He has a tattoo of a scorpion on his right forearm, a band of feathers on his right upper arm, a sword on his left forearm and a head dress on his left upper arm.
On Monday, Morrissette’s 21-year-old, similarly named son, Michael Douglas Morrissette, made a first appearance in Regina provincial court on a charge of second-degree murder in the death of David Justin Lloyd Anderson.
Officers responded to the 1400 block of 6th Avenue shortly after 5 p.m. on March 5 for a report of an injured man, who turned out to be Anderson.
EMS also responded, and the 36-year-old was transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later. He became the city’s Regina’s fifth homicide victim of 2020.
During the younger Morrissette’s court appearance this week, there was confusion as the judge began reading additional charges before the accused’s younger brother clarified that those charges were for the other Michael Morrissette — their father.
The younger Michael Morrissette, who was arrested on Saturday, told the judge, “they won’t let me out to call,” for legal help. On Monday morning a representative from Legal Aid was able to communicate with him.
With the Crown opposing release, his next court appearance is set for Friday morning.
