COVID-19 has officially ruined the Geneva International Motor Show, throwing a wrench into the plans of many automakers and individuals.

Genesis had been looking forward to pulling the sheets off the new G80 sedan at the Geneva International Motor Show, but with that event cancelled, the live reveal is happening online — at least, the first-look part of it.

The Korean brand released the first official images of the 2021 G80 on Instagram. First impressions are that Genesis has once again delivered a serious looker. The design renderings show a strong resemblance to the G90 sedan, but with shades of the GV80 SUV; the face is a lot like its sedan sister, while elements such as the headlights and dual-line running lights front and side are more akin to the utility vehicle.

Sitting on 20-inch wheels, the mid-sized luxury sedan cuts a fastback profile that the G90, with its extra length, can’t pull off quite as well. In fact, this may be the most handsome example of the “Athletic Elegance” design language to date.

The car’s interior is a new look, but with familiar details, too. The dash has a slender air vent spanning its width to the wheel, and a 14.5-inch digital multimedia screen is set in the top. Genesis also reduced the thickness of the A-pillars and the rear-view mirror to maximize visibility. The 2021 G80 will be fully revealed soon, and Genesis has promised an AWD version for Canada.
