PROVINCE INTRODUCES SEVERAL NEW MEASURES
On Friday, after confirming a second presumptive case of COVID-19 in Saskatchewan, the provincial government brought in a series of measures to further curtail the spread of the disease.
They include:
No public gatherings of more than 250 people in one room. This does not include schools, universities and workplaces where 250 people will be present but dispersed throughout multiple rooms.
No events of more than 50 people will take place where speakers or attendees have travelled internationally in the past 14 days.
The above rules do not apply to stores and faithbased organizations. But the government advises that measures be in place to prevent the spread of the virus. Crowd size monitoring and social distancing are recommended. Guidance on best practices is available from local medical health officers.
Effective Friday, people who have travelled outside the province in the previous 14 days or people exhibiting flu like symptoms or acute repository symptoms should avoid visiting long-term care homes and hospitals.
Effective Friday, international travel for all government employees travelling on government business has been prohibited.
All out-of-province travel for government employees on government business will be restricted and is subject to approval from Premier Scott Moe’s deputy minister.
Any government employee travelling internationally — including to the U.S. — or who plans to travel internationally for personal reasons will be required to self-isolate for 14 days after returning.
All government employees with flu-like symptoms or respiratory symptoms will be required to stay home and self-isolate.
The provincial budget will proceed on March 18, but no guests will be invited. MLAS, members of the media and select staff will gather for the budget.
All tours and public events at the legislative building are cancelled and general access to the building will also be suspended.
